Every day, millions of people suffer from acid reflux and heartburn. While acid reflux causes are well known, the remedies that are most popular, can actually create further problems and produce adverse, sometimes harmful side effects. Isn’t that strange?
Furthermore, the most common form of treatment for heartburn, the antacid tablet, if taken regularly, can be the main reason why heartburn develops into a much more serious condition. Antacids, while effective in bringing fast relief are only masking the causes of the problem. Though the root causes are often unclear, perhaps the most prevalent acid reflux cause is a poor diet. Acid reflux occurs during digestion, when the stomach churns up acid or refluxes it to the esophagus, causing a burning sensation inside the chest or throat. So in case you eat too a lot of very acidic foods like tomato sauces and/or fatty, fried foods, the stomach has to process an overabundance of acid. Too much acid can push back through a valve in between the abdomen as well as the esophagus known as the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Acid reflux culprits include but aren’t limited to tomato based sauces, fried and fatty foods, chocolate, alcohol, citrus fruits, peppers, and caffeinated beverages.
Along the same lines as diet, overeating also causes reflux. When you overeat, the stomach can’t keep up with the demand to process all the acids. So food gets backed up, and digestive acids infiltrate the esophageal valve to cause that unpleasant burning feeling centered in the chest.

One of the better dictionaries describes reflux as tidal, ebbing or flowing back which is rather an apt description of reflux.
This is an excellent description of acid reflux causes and their symptoms; a flowing back – in this case from the stomach.
What happens in reality is that a good many folk get a burning feeling around the chest which goes up through the throat and into the mouth where it leaves a sour, ratheracidic, taste. This pain, or more usually just discomfort, is caused by stomach acid flowing back into the esophagus causing what we know as acid reflux or heartburn.
